The Wards in Uptown Charlotte

Within Uptown Charlotte and more importantly inside the I-277 loop, there are four subdivisions or Wards that make up this bustling city area.  First Ward, Second Ward, Third Ward and Fourth Ward is what they are known as and they each offer something a little different.

First Ward Charlotte, NC

First Ward is the First of many great Wards in Uptown Charlotte, North Carolina.  Every Ward offers something a little different but First Ward is where it begins.  It has come along way over the past 10 years and its recent revitalization includes Time Warner Arena, Spirit Square, Levine Museum of the New South,
and the Mint Museum of Craft + Design, Courtside Condos and the New UNCC (University of North Carolina Charlotte) Academic Building which is part of an Urban Village Project.

Time Warner Arena is the home court to the NBA's Charlotte Bobcats as well as a showcase to the many top performing acts that come through
like Bruce Springsteen and U2.  The First Ward, rich in history, was named its Ward in 1870 when politicians divided Uptown Charlotte into manageable parts.

First Ward started out as vacant land and public housing and has now transformed into planned development by Bank of America and The Charlotte Housing Authority.  First Ward was just awarded the HUD HOPE VI grant, giving way to many new condos, townhomes, commercial buildings and University's.

Levine Properties, who is the owner developing the land, plans a 4 acre park, 450,000 square feet of office space, 2,700 residential units, 250 hotel rooms, 250,000 square feet of retail space, and 450,000 square feet of civicpace.  First Ward is growing fast and many new buildings are underway.  Stake your Place now in First Ward and scroll through the existing and future developments in this great Ward!

Second Ward Charlotte, NC

The history of Second Ward in Charlotte, NC dates back to the beginning of the 19th century.  In the early days, this thriving mixed use neighborhood know as Brooklyn, featured a diverse neighborhood and was home to the wealthy and the poor.  It provided Charlotte with the Brevard Street Library which was the first free black library in the South.  In 1923, Second Ward built Second Ward High School which was the first urban black high school in Charlotte.

Second Ward is now home to the Charlotte Mecklenburg Court House as well as many government buildings.  It is also now home to the brand new NASCAR Hall of Fame.  Brevard Street and Second Ward in general is now being turned into an entertainment Mecca and now features Epicenter which is a entertainment center that includes a bowling alley, move theater, many restaurants like Black Finn and Wild Wings and an array of nightlife.

Second Ward is the least populated of the four Wards but the few that are available are some of the best.  The Ratcliffe and The Trust are currently the only two living opportunities and prices reach up into the millions.  Condo development is current underway like The Park and 210 Trade which makes Second Ward an upcoming high end place to live.

Fourth Ward Charlotte, NC

Fourth Ward Charlotte is a Ward filled with character: with its tree lined streets of Settlers lane to the new high rises like Avenue Condominiums and The Vue Charlotte.  New is being created in 4th ward everyday but there is still old evidence of its pasta as well!  Fourth Ward still maintains many of its Victorian homes even through all of its redevelopment in the late 70's and into the early 80's.  Many old homes were saved and the quiet quaint neighborhood of Fourth Ward still keeps its charm.  The local restaurant, Alexander Michael's, keeps that charm going as well.

Although, it did introduce the many mid rise residential and business developments that make fourth Ward what it is today.  With the new NC Music Factory, ImaginOn, Discovery Place, Gateway Village, Avenue Condos and The Vue Charlotte, Fourth Ward will never be the same.

Fourth Ward is the one true Ward that offers everything you need.  From a nice relaxing walk through Historic fourth Ward or the trip to the local Harris Teeter, you'll find everything you'll need for lifestyle.
