Second Ward - Charlotte, NC
The history of Second Ward in Charlotte NC dates back to the beginning of the 19th century.In the early days, this thriving mixed use neighborhood known as Brooklyn, featured a diverse neighborhood and was home to the wealthy and the poor. It provided Charlotte with the Brevard Street Library which was the first free black library in the south.
In 1923, Second Ward built the first urban black high school and is now home to the Charlotte Mecklenburg Court House as well as many government buildings. Second Ward is also now home to the brand new NASCAR Hall of Fame. Brevard Street and Second Ward in general is now being turned into an entertainment Mecca and now features Epicenter which is a entertainment center that includes a bowling alley, movie theater, many restaurants like Black Finn and Wild Wings and an array of nightlife.
Second Ward is the least populated of the four Wards but the few that are available are some of the best. The Ratcliffe and The Trust are currently the only two living opportunities and prices reach up into the millions. Condo development is current underway like The Park and 210 Trade which makes Second Ward an upcoming high end place to live.
